Red Camellia (1)
Chanel Red Camellia (1) 1 Lip & Cheek Balm, Chanel ($45.00 for 0.23 oz) is a light medium, pink-red shade with cool, light undertones and a soft sheen. It was dewy on my lips for longer than on my cheeks, as it seemed to dry out a bit to a satin-like sheen – not fully set though.
It had a semi-transparent, buildable pigment that applied well with fingertips or a soft synthetic blush brush, and while it had a slightly thicker, sticky texture, it applied beautifully over foundation as well as over exposed skin. It began to migrate significantly after seven and a half hours of erosion.
As a lip product, it applies more precisely with a lip brush, and it was very easy to build and distribute the product for an even coverage layer. The texture seemed to “melt” on my lips, which helped it transform into a lip texture. It lasted for three and a half hours as a lip balm and was hydrating over time.

The formula is supposed to have a “buttery nourishing formula” that “melts into the skin” and adds a “touch of colour.” The brand recommended applying it to the lips and/or cheeks, although it can be used with a fine brush if desired. I’ve found that fingertips work well for both methods, although as a lip product I could have seen a more perfect stand-alone lip brush (I feel like I need more product on my lips than on my cheeks).
The texture was like a thick gel with noticeable viscosity, so I was very surprised that the product set well on top of the foundation and was not prone to lifting. On my cheeks, it dried out noticeably, but not completely, so it had a silky sheen but didn’t appear as dewy as it was initially applied. On my lips, it kept more of the shine for longer, but it wasn’t as long lasting as a lip product.
It had a semi-transparent and buildable pigment, which was more easy on my lips. The light viscosity and thickness of the product seem to help it work well on my lips because a lot of tinted lip balms are often too thin to be prone to settling into my lip lines or picking up texture imperfections.
They lasted seven to eight hours as a cheek product before migrating a bit, lasted two to four hours as a lip product and were hydrating to wear.
