Chanel Vital Beige No. 1 Lip & Cheek Balm Review & Swatches

Big Vital (3)

Chanel Vital Beige (3) 1 Chanel Lip & Cheek Balm ($45.00 for 0.23 oz) Medium dark and reddish brown with warm undertones and a silky sheen. The finish felt smoother and softer on my lips, as the product melts, spreads and loses its potency. When it was applied and blended onto my cheeks, it seemed to have lost some of its luster and patina but not fully set.

The consistency was slight to the touch, which, surprisingly, wasn’t a hindrance to application. I had no problem applying the product over foundation or on bare skin and getting an even and spread result. The color went on evenly and was as tolerant of the lip texture as the lip color. This shade stayed good for seven and a half hours as a cheek product and three hours as a lip balm (and it was moisturizing).

Formula overview

$45.00 / 0.23 oz. – $195.65 an ounce

The formula is supposed to have a “buttery nourishing formula” that “melts into the skin” and adds a “touch of colour.” The brand recommended applying it to the lips and/or cheeks, although it can be used with a fine brush if desired. I’ve found that fingertips work well for both methods, although as a lip product I could have seen a more perfect stand-alone lip brush (I feel like I need more product on my lips than on my cheeks).

The texture was like a thick gel with noticeable viscosity, so I was very surprised that the product set well on top of the foundation and was not prone to lifting. On my cheeks, it dried out noticeably, but not completely, so it had a silky sheen but didn’t appear as dewy as it was initially applied. On my lips, it kept more of the shine for longer, but it wasn’t as long-lasting as a lip product.

It had a semi-transparent and buildable pigment, which was easily achieved on my lips. The light viscosity and thickness of the product seem to help it work well on my lips because a lot of tinted lip balms are often too thin to be prone to settling into my lip lines or picking up texture imperfections.

They lasted seven to eight hours as a cheek product before migrating a bit, lasted two to four hours as a lip product and were hydrating to wear.
