Chanel Wake-up Pink No. 1 Lip & Cheek Balm Review & Swatches

Pink Wake Up (4)

Chanel Wake-up Pink (4) No. 1 Chanel Lip & Cheek Balm. Chanel lip and cheek balm ($45.00 for 0.23 oz) is a brighter, medium coral in moderate and warm shades – balanced between pink and orange – paired with a silky sheen. The consistency was lightweight, neither too thin nor too thick, and had a light viscosity that seemed to melt while the product was sitting on my skin or lips.

It had a semi-transparent and buildable color coverage that spreads easily on my cheeks and lips. It was evenly applied to bare skin as well as over my foundation because it didn’t lift my base products. The lip product was evenly applied to my lips, didn’t pick up the texture of the lips, and didn’t visibly settle into my lip lines. It wore well for eight hours on my cheeks and three and a half hours on my lips (and it was hydrating).

Formula overview

$45.00 / 0.23 oz. – $195.65 an ounce

The formula is supposed to have a “buttery nourishing formula” that “melts into the skin” and adds a “touch of colour.” The brand recommended applying it to the lips and/or cheeks, although it can be used with a fine brush if desired. I’ve found that fingertips work well for both methods, although as a lip product I could have seen a more perfect stand-alone lip brush (I feel like I need more product on my lips than on my cheeks).

The texture was like a thick gel with noticeable viscosity, so I was very surprised that the product set well on top of the foundation and was not prone to lifting. On my cheeks, it dried out noticeably, but not completely, so it had a silky sheen but didn’t appear as dewy as it was initially applied. On my lips, it kept more of the shine for longer, but it wasn’t as long-lasting as a lip product.

It had a semi-transparent and buildable pigment, which was easily achieved on my lips. The light viscosity and thickness of the product seem to help it work well on my lips because a lot of tinted lip balms are often too thin to be prone to settling into my lip lines or picking up texture imperfections.

They lasted seven to eight hours as a cheek product before migrating a bit, lasted two to four hours as a lip product and were hydrating to wear.
