ColourPop Lunar New Year Lip Colors Reviews & Swatches

It’s Grr . time

ColourPop It’s Grr Time Fresh Kiss Lip Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.21 oz) is a bright cherry red color with cooler undertones and a creamy, gel-like finish. There was a slight opacity at the end, which gave it a plumper, smoother and juicier end result, and while it wasn’t “opaque” it wasn’t lacking in coverage either. The consistency was lightweight and spreadable and felt like more gloss than liquid lipstick. It lasted really well for five hours and was hydrating over time.

Formula overview

$8.00 / 0.21 oz. – $38.10 an ounce

The formula is supposed to have “liquid lipstick pigment” paired with “high-gloss gloss” that’s also hydrating and “ultra-creamy” with “high color saturation.” It was pigmented – semi-opaque to opaque – with a smooth, creamy texture that is lightweight, non-sticky and spreadable.

If anything, I found they were thicker and/or too much product was dispensed with one pull of the foot applicator (so wipe off the excess or try using only one side to get coverage) where there was a fine line between a good (even) application mostly) and a lower quality app that contains some fonts.

I’ve found that it smoothed out my lip lines, especially as it eroded, and my lips looked hydrated, plumper, and smoother. Most shades lasted about four hours with some long color and shine with even fading/wear. The formula was comfortable to wear and super hydrating, and it gave me the feel of a lip texture/lip balm hybrid more than a lipstick/lip gloss.

It smelled of vanilla but did not have a distinct taste.

You hear me Raw

ColourPop Hear Me Raw Fresh Kiss Lip Cream ($8.00 for 0.24 oz) is a bright, medium red with cool blue undertones and a silky finish. It was intensely pigmented—it went a very long way—and delivered even, opaque coverage in one layer. The texture was lightweight, spreadable, and creamy, mousse-like, so it was lightweight and comfortable to wear. It stayed good for over six hours, left a strong stain behind, and was hydrating over time.

Formula overview

$8.00 / 0.24 oz. – $33.33 an ounce

The formula is meant to be a “hybrid” product that has “color lipstick with care lip balm” in a “creamy matte finish.” They described the coverage as “buildable”. It features a flexible rod with a rounded side foot and a more slanted triangular side (the latter works well for sharper color streaks).

The product had semi-opaque to opaque coverage in one product pull, although one could certainly use the value of just one side of an applicator product to achieve more buildable sheer coverage if desired.

The consistency was like mousse with an airy and velvety soft feel that made it easy to spread across my lips and made comfortable to wear. It wasn’t sticky, but there was a bit of stickiness without the tackiness, the kind I tend to find found in silicone-dense velvety formulations like this one.

It features a cream-like finish that wears off to a smooth matte finish after an hour or two. It does not have a complete drying, so it is not transfer-resistant or long-lasting. It lasted four to six hours with deeper, more intense shades of red that tend to last longer and leave behind lighter spots. They moisturize lightly over time. There appears to be no smell or taste.

It’s much lighter and less “wet” to feel at first than the brand’s previous Ultra Satin formula. The Ultra Satin formula adhered more and was long lasting, and while it wasn’t initially transfer resistant, it was more transfer resistant after an hour or two of wear.

Show your stripes

COLORPOP REVEAL THE GLITTER STRIPES LIP COLOR ($8.00 for 0.21 oz) is a darker red with neutral to cool undertones and a glossy finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage paired with a very liquid, semi-watery texture that turned out to be something a little sticky and thicker on my lips. I had issues with streaks that were hard to iron out, even when I let the product set. It wore well for five and a half hours and felt hydrated while wearing.

Formula overview

$8.00 / 0.21 oz. – $38.10 an ounce

It’s meant to have “the long-wearing powers of lip stain” with a “glossy sheen” paired with “medium to buildable coverage” that is, “non-drying.” The initial texture was almost watery, overly spreadable (and the applicator often picks up too much product, so watch out during application) but it dried out to a shinier, less glossy sheen and more like a satin lipstick with some transparency.

The initial shine faded within a couple of hours, so it looked like a real satin – this was right for doing nothing or just taking a drink from the glass as it wasn’t transfer resistant. The stain was unaffected by the meal and tends to leave a very strong ring around the edges of my lips as it fades quickly while eating. Most of the shades were left to their own devices, wearing about six hours with a faint spot left behind.

It had medium, buildable coverage but quickly built to semi-opaque coverage without a formal second layer (just back and forth for an even layer of product). A couple of shades were more realistic to medium and some were more semi-opaque than the first layer.

There does not appear to be any added odor or taste during wear.
